Also the
Brighton page at UXnet.org can show news and events as another locale in the User Experience Network.
Original preamble
At BarcampBrighton 2
Danny Hope gave an interesting talk about the methods he uses to design sites. He also talked about his interest in openness and showed
pics of wireframes that he keeps on Flickr. During the discussion afterwards it became obvious that there's a lot that the Brighton design community could learn from each other in terms of what we do and the way that we do it.
There are a multitude of digital media companies in Brighton and many different networking groups. However there are very few opportunities to talk in detail about design both theory and practice. Let's see how many
people we can get together to form an informal group of user experience / interaction / web designers. The aim would be to meet on a semi regular basis maybe using the 20x20
Pecha Kucha presentation format maybe just bringing in problems / concepts or whatever to discuss in an atmosphere of open collaboration.
If you're interested please put down your name and feel free to add / edit bits to this wiki. If there are enough
people interested then we can make the effort to organise a venue and date and make it all happen.
Objectives
- Share ways of doing things
- Share tips on processes
- Get help / feedback / input on design problems
- Learn new ways to do things
- Keep up to date with best practice
Frequency
At the 1st meeting there seemed to be a consensus that there should be
planned events about once a month and
ad-hoc things like crits can just sort of spring up whenever.
Film night
We are currently mulling over the idea of a UX flim night where we meet up in a bar and watch something UX related.
If you're interested take a look at our suggestions. Venues (list of all venues we might use)
Main venues:
- The Werks (map) for talks
- The Skiff (map) for book club
- Upstairs at The Eagle (map) for film nights
Other groups
- Just been pointed at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/uxbrighton/ is it alive? It has 13 members and their website has2 updates for Brighton (last summer) but 'no local ambassador' for Brighton. [Update 4/10/08: Danny Hope has just been named the new local ambassador for Brighton. It seems like the previous group is not longer active. So consider this group the official UXnet group for the area. Welcome! Check out http://uxnet.org/locales/joinus for more things you can do to connect with other locations. Keith UXnet board.
- There's also the Brighton UPA group as far as I know this has been dormant for a year or so but I (peteG) was going to try and bring that back to life.
- Then there's also these guys use8.net
